Hamilton Russell Vineyards
Where
We are the pioneering 170 hectare Wine Estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, just behind the old seaside resort town of Hermanus. At closest the cold South Atlantic is only 1,500 meters from our Estate.
Our Pinot noir and Chardonnay vineyards are planted in 52 hectares of ancient, stony, clay and iron-rich shale-derived soil. Average maximum temperatures for the 4 hottest months equate to Burgundy, as does the clay content of our soils.
Who
Owner, Anthony Hamilton Russell is the second generation of the family to own the property, which celebrated 43 vintages with the 2023 harvest – Anthony’s 33rd year at the helm.
He lives on the Estate, which he is deeply involved in, along with their long-standing dedicated team.
Famed
Hamilton Russell Vineyards is internationally renowned for unusually classically styled Pinot noir and Chardonnay, which is sold in over 50 countries.
A single Pinot noir and a single Chardonnay, express the beauty of their privileged 52 hectare "monopole" of clay rich soil unusually close to the South Atlantic Ocean.
Offerings
Direct sales are not a focus for the Estate, but visitors can taste the wines at a beautiful historic cottage near the wine cellars, overlooking a lake teeming with birdlife.
Evidence of the Estate's WWF Conservation Champion status can be seen all around.
