As you ascend into the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, surrounded by sprawling vineyards, ocean views and towering mountains, you’ll arrive at

Hasher Family Wines. Situated along the banks of the Onrus River and De Bos Dam, the vineyards are planted in unique clay soils with ancient, decomposed granite loam and quartzite inclusions. Hasher Family Wines farms some of the oldest vineyards and best kept secrets in the Valley, first established in 1997.

Who

A long time ago, a young boy from Belgium had a dream. To one day settle in the seaside village that stole his heart. When fate intervened, Frederik Herten met Céline Haspeslagh, a girl from a proud lineage of European farmers and pioneers in organic produce. As the first-generation owners of Hasher Family Wines in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde, they are laying a firm foundation for descendants to follow and fortify. At the helm of the winemaking is South Africa’s Natasha Williams.

Famed

With meticulous vineyard care and cellar techniques, Hasher Family Wines craft elegant wines true to their terroir, exuding a distinct sense of place. Each vintage is a unique creation of character and depth, flowing from the valley’s ecosystems and rhythms. We focus on varieties suited to the cool climate, most importantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Our full range of wines also includes a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and very small releases of Pinotage and Cabernet Franc.
